Planning in the ETJ

The City Council recently approved the adoption of the West/Southwest Sector Plan as the third sector plan to cover both the City of San Antonio and its Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ).  This follows the adoption of the Heritage South Sector Plan and the North Sector Plan.  The goal of the sector planning process is to provide a long range vision for the future of each sector of the city in order to aid public decisions in evaluating the merits of development proposals and capital investments.

One of the most interesting questions we have received to date is whether the City should be planning in the ETJ.  The City doesn't have land use authority in its ETJ but rather compliance with the sector plan land use is voluntary.  The sector plan, however, provides a guide for ideally how community members would like the city to grow in the future whether it is in a low density/intensity or high density/intensity capacity.   What do you think about the City planning in the ETJ?
